MOAB, Utah—Hell’s Revenge, one of the most iconic off-roading trails in the country, has recently been designated a national trail by the Utah Division of Outdoor Recreation. This trail, known for its challenging terrain and breathtaking views, becomes the 24th trail in Utah to receive this prestigious designation.

Located just past the Sand Flats Recreation Area, Hell’s Revenge stretches for six-and-a-half miles over the rugged red rocks of Moab. The trail is notorious for its rugged and hazardous terrain, making it suitable only for experienced offroad drivers. Those brave the trail are rewarded with stunning Arches and Canyonlands National Park vistas, providing a unique and exhilarating experience.

The Significance of National Trail Designation

The designation of Hell’s Revenge as a national trail is a testament to its importance and popularity within the off-roading community. This recognition aims to encourage public access and appreciation of trails, promote outdoor recreation, and preserve natural landscapes. Established under the National Trails System Act of 1968, the National Trails System now encompasses over 88,600 miles of trails across various settings, from urban to rural.

Hell’s Revenge joins an elite group of trails in Utah, which includes the Mount Timpanogos trail, Fisher Towers, and Cascade Springs. This designation highlights the trail’s significance and ensures its protection and maintenance for future generations of off-roaders.

The Future of Off-Roading

The addition of Hell’s Revenge to the national trail list is a significant win for off-roading enthusiasts, reflecting a growing recognition of the sport’s significance and the need for designated trails. It underscores the importance of responsible land use and the symbiotic relationship between nature and human recreation.

By preserving and promoting these trails, we can ensure that off-roading remains a popular and sustainable activity, allowing future generations to enjoy the thrill of exploring rugged landscapes.
